The Toy Dolls
The group THE TOY DOLLS was formed in England in 1979. It quickly caught the attention of local audiences by supporting the Angelic Upstarts twice on tour. After their first cuts, The Toy Dolls began playing their own tours, gaining the attention of audiences both in the UK and Europe. They quickly developed their unique style, harkening back to punk-rock's street roots. What distinguished them from other groups on the Oi! scene was their unique sense of humor and excellent lyrics, often based on wordplay. Songs such as "Yul Brynner Was a Skinhead," "James Bond Lives Down Our Street" and a fantastic cover of the nursery rhyme "Nellie the Elephant" combined musical intelligence and a killer hit. The 1983 albums "Dig That Groove Baby" and 1993's "Absurd-Ditties" are widely regarded as some of the best punk albums of all time. The group's discography today - including all concert recordings and compilations - numbers more than 50 items, including more than a dozen studio albums.
The band is famous for its imaginative covers - victims of The Toy Dolls include Ricky Martin ("Livin' La Vida Loca"), Europe ("The Final Countdown"), Chuck Berry ("No Particular Place to Go"), Elvis Presley ("Blue Suede Shoes") and even Johann Sebastian Bach ("Toccata in D minor").
